Since Pardess opened its doors 10 years ago in Fishkill, we have been using a borrowed Torah for all services and Torah readings. Now, as we complete the final touches to our new Shul, it is high time that we have a Torah to call our own!

The Torah writing project is being spearheaded by Goldy’s family in memory of their father Yisroel Yoel Sosover of blessed memory.

Yisrolik Sosover, as he was called, was born in Jerusalem in 1944. A true Jerusalemite, he was sharp and witty, and an absolute straight shooter. For many years he owned a mobile Jewish bookshop in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He didn’t just sell the books; he read them. And he read his customers too. He had perfect book recommendations for every customer, who were often surprised how he knew exactly what they would appreciate.

Yisrolik loved to study Torah and share its books with others. He was a well-liked and well-known in his community, yet always remained humble.

The project of writing a Torah in memory of Yisroel Yoel Sosover took off last fall around the time of his 30th yortzeit. The scribe has been working on it since and we hope to have it ready in time for the 31st yortzeit in September 2024.
